Tromsø, Hillesøya and Sommarøy - Norway

March 2025

This three-day photography trip through Tromsø, Hillesøya and Sommarøy was an unforgettable opportunity to practise my craft in one of the most breathtaking landscapes I’ve ever experienced. From wandering around Tromsø and taking in the Arctic Cathedral, the world’s smallest bar and the lively harbour, one of Norway’s largest fishing and cruise ports, to spending time with the Sámi people and learning about their deep respect for the land and reindeer. We fed the reindeer, shared reindeer stew, and joined in with traditional joik singing around a fire inside a lavvu.

We later took a road trip across the Sommarøybrua, the cantilever bridge connecting the islands of Hillesøya and Sommarøy. Though small, each island revealed dramatic coastlines, quiet roads and endlessly beautiful corners. At night, we hunted down the Northern Lights in a secluded spot, untouched by artificial light.

Please enjoy a selection of photographs from one of the most special and memorable trips I’ve taken.
